suppress layer numbers in Export Layers To Files

October 18, 2009

Adobe Photoshop CS4 comes with a script that exports layers to files, but it adds layer numbers to the file names by default. After lots of manual renaming I decided to add an option to suppress the layer numbers.

You can download the modified Export Layers To Files script from here. Unzip the file and overwrite the original one in Photoshop CS4’s Presets/Scripts folder (to try it, run it from Photoshop’s File/Scripts/Browse menu ).

The script was originally written by Naoki Hada and Tom Ruark, Copyright 2007.  Adobe Systems, Incorporated.

I added the same option to Leo Davidson‘s modified Export Layers To Files (Fast PNG version) script. That script works with Photoshop CS3, you can grab it from here.

  1. I think this is great. However you worked it out, I’m grateful. Unfortunately, it’s not quite a full solution. It still adds an underscore in between my prefix and the layer name I’ve assigned. Is there a way around this?

  2. I figured it out. Thanks!

  3. Thanks for sharing!

It would be great if you also could get rid of the annoying group numbers. Please let me know if you do so!

  4. @Hakan: what do you mean by “group numbers”?
